Delivery of the Mistral, which is expected to begin in 2024 and costs $5 million, has already sold out. Despite being a technological marvel and a symbol of opulence, the amazing Bugatti quad-turbo W-16 engine is soon to be discontinued. When Volkswagen Group sold Bugatti to Croatian EV manufacturer Rimac, it was a clear admission that electric vehicles were the future of the ultra-luxury brand. The new Bugatti Mistral, revealed at Pebble Beach during Monterey Car Week, is the last vehicle to use the W-16 and so marks the beginning of the end.
The Mistral is essentially a convertible version of the Bugatti Chiron that hasn’t been released until now. Therefore it serves as the final chapter in the hypercar’s life cycle while having a different name. There will be a total of 99 Mistrals built, and each one will cost $5 million at today’s currency rate in the United States. New Buggatti Mistral is a very cool and chic design for the 2018 summer season. Bugatti claims they have sold out well in advance of the 2024 delivery date. The Mistral is more than just a roof removal while sharing a family tree with the Chiron. A whole new front end was created for it, one that takes inspiration from the predatory aesthetic of the Bugatti Divo and the Bugatti La Voiture Noire, two prior ultra-limited editions. The Mistral isn’t exactly striking in appearance, what with its extended nose and fender-mounted lights. Yet, it commands more attention on the road than a parade float.

A visor-like shape can be seen in the Mistral’s shortened windscreen, which is complemented by similarly thin side panels. All official photos show the car without any sort of roof, but Bugatti has confirmed to Car and Driver that a temporary clip-in panel, rather than a full top, will be available as an option. The Veyron Grand Sport Vitesse, Bugatti’s last convertible, was essentially a Targa with a removable top. It’s safe to say that the Mistral has been converted for good. Raised intakes on either side of the direct cockpit air to the engine, creating a ram effect. They’re linked through an elaborate sparring match. The X-shaped taillight parts stretch across nearly the full length of the vehicle and include illuminated red Bugatti logos. The current 8.0-liter W-16 with its four turbochargers and 1578 horsepower serves as the engine.
As time passes, Bugattis powered by W16 engines will become increasingly rare. Since the company’s inception in the new millennium, the W16 has powered every vehicle it has produced; now, the W16 Mistral will be its final resting place. The Bugatti W16 Mistral is based on the Chiron’s mechanicals, which was designed for a two-door coupe only. As a farewell to the W16 engine, the Mistral is equipped with the most potent form of the quad-turbo motor: an 8.0-liter unit taken from the Chiron SuperSport that produces 1,578 hp.
